The Medical Assisting Certificate program is a four semester program and includes instruction in computer applications, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology courses, in addition to core courses covering administrative and clinical skills utilized by the entry-level medical assistant.  Students must pass 100% of the Psychomotor and Affective competencies (skills) required in the program and pass every course in the program with a grade of “C” or better in order to progress and/or remain in the program.  The program consists of 1300 Contact Hours and 43.33 Credit Hours.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Students will be able to pursue entry-level employment in the private and/or public sectors in the area of medical assisting in a clinical and/or clerical setting.
2. Students will be able to utilize critical thinking to deliver safe, effective care in diverse workplace settings.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate legal and ethical accountability and professional conduct in their practice.
4. Students will be able to utilize therapeutic communication skills with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
5. Students will be able to identify the role of the medical assistant in various healthcare settings.
6. Students will be able to demonstrate development of patient education skills to meet the needs of their patients and families.
7. Students will be able to demonstrate respect for the rights of patients with differing values, cultures, beliefs, nationalities, and lifestyles.
8. Students will be able to deonstrate good health habits in the healthcare setting (Standard Precautions).
