Engineering Technology - Advanced Manufacturing, A.S.

Florida Gateway College offers the Associate in Science degree in Engineering Technology with a specialization in Advanced Manufacturing. The degree is designed to prepare students for many high skill/high wage/high demand jobs in manufacturing. Students who successfully complete this degree may seek initial employment in occupational titles such as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programmer, PLC Technician, Controls Engineering Technologist, Process Automation Technologist, Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, or Instrumentation and Control Technician. Courses in the degree program combine theory and laboratory activities to develop employability skills, technical competency, and safe and efficient work practices. The courses in the degree consist of a planned sequence of instruction beginning with 18 credit hours of technical core courses common to all of the 10 possible Engineering Technology specializations designed to align with the skills standards in the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council’s (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) industry credential. The remaining sequence of instruction builds on those fundamentals with more in-depth study of process equipment, instrumentation and automation that comprises the essential technologies deployed in modern manufacturing today.

To be officially accepted into this program a student must:

• have a high school diploma or GED certificate,
• complete an application to FGC,
• take a placement test as prescribed by State Board of Education Rule.

All students are required to construct their class schedules with the assistance of an advisor or the Program Director.

• ETS 1540C - Industrial Applications using PLCs and Robotics 3 credits

Program Notes:

Students:

• may articulate the 18 credit hour Engineering Technology Support Specialist Certificate if they possess the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council’s (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) credential
• must have all electives or alternatives approved by the faculty advisor or division chairperson, and
• must complete developmental education classes in English, reading, math, and SLS 1501 The College Experience , if placement scores are not at required levels.
