The Health Information Technology program is an Associate in Science degree designed to prepare the graduate to work with and manage health-related information in a variety of settings. Health Information Technicians collect, organize and analyze data used in the healthcare profession. Most technicians working in Health Information Technology, also known as HIT professionals, work in healthcare facilities, but some work for insurance companies and government agencies, compiling data used for analysis and research. A criminal background check is required prior to starting the Internship courses. Students must attain a minimum grade of C in all required courses. The following is a suggested sequence for the required courses: General Education and Other Required Courses: 26 Credit Hours
Health Information Management Courses:
Fall Semester: 12 Credit Hours
Spring Semester: 9 Credit Hours
Fall Semester: 13 Credit Hours
Spring Semester: 10 Credit Hours
Health Information Technology A.S. Total 70 Credit Hours
Program Notes:
The associate’s degree Health Information Management Program is in Candidacy Status, pending accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Once the program is granted accreditation, graduates will be eligible to take the Registered Health Information Technology Exam (RHIT). |
