MEA 0002C - Introduction to Medical Assisting 250 clock hours, 8.33 occupational credits (4.17 lecture credit hours, 4.16 lab credit hours) Prerequisite(s): Restricted to students in the Medical Assisting Occupational Certificate Program. Corequisite(s): HSC 0003C . Required Grade: Pass with a C or better. The lecture and lab course covers introductory medical assisting communication skills (including medical terminology, signs, symbols & labels), medical keyboarding, legal & ethical topics as well as an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology with some pathology and dietary guidelines. Portions to be taught or practiced in the lab portion include communicating with patients, practicing the role of a medical assistant, and anatomy & physiology.
