FFP 0141C - Emergency Services First Responder 40 clock hours, 1.33 occupational credits Pre/Corequisite(s): CPR Certification This survey course based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration curriculum for first responders at scenes of accident and/or illness is designed to prepare the student for emergency care of a victim, providing the skills and knowledge of care prior to arrival of the Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic. Recognition of symptoms and signs of impending danger to the patient’s life and the accepted treatment modes for the conditions will be taught as well as techniques for extrication (light duty) of the accident victim. This course is designed to instruct a student to the level of Emergency Medical Responder, who serves as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. In addition to class meetings and weekly quizzes and assignments, students are required to demonstrate mastery of all psychomotor skills in the skills lab. The course meets the requirements of the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (64J-1 FAC). Lab fee.
