EMS 2271C - Paramedic I 8 credits | Offered: Fall, Spring Prerequisite(s): Must be a certified Florida EMT, BSC 2084C , or BSC 2085 /BSC 2085L and BSC 2086 /BSC 2086L with a grade of C or better. Corequisite(s): EMS 2435L . Required Grade: Pass with a C or better. First semester theory course teaching the role and function of the paramedic, ethical and legal aspects of EMS, overview of anatomy and physiology, patient assessment skills, fluid and electrolytes, use of blood and related hazards, shock and management of shock, IV therapy, respiratory systems indices and pathophysiology, management of respiratory problems, and recognition and implications of emotionally disturbed patients. Advanced Extrication and BTLS/PHTLS will be included as part of the course schedule for the fall semester and must be successfully completed to receive credit for EMS 2271C - Paramedic I. Lab Fee. Liability insurance fee.
